Like many another pretty girl, Edna Murphy got to Hollywood via modeling. She was a top New York photographer's model when she made her film debut in 1918. By 1920 she had worked her way up to starring roles, and Fox put her in a serial, Fantomas (1920), that was quite well received. She made films for a couple of more studios before she finally signed with Pathe, which put her back in serials again. Her career never really got out of serials or B pictures, and, having married producer/director Mervyn LeRoy in 1927, she retired from the screen in 1933.
Best friend was actress Gertrude Olmstead.

Once engaged to Irving Thalberg.

Named Most Photographed Movie Star of 1925 by ScreenLand Magazine.

Never remarried after her much publicized divorce from Mervyn LeRoy. LeRoy deserted her in 1932.

Blacklisted in Hollywood after Mervyn LeRoy deserted and divorced her in 1932. Unable to find work, she was forced to retire from acting in 1933.

Died alone, a virtual recluse, never leaving her Santa Monica home, in 1974. Her 1927 wedding dress was found (perfectly preserved) hanging in her living room. She never got over her love for Mervyn LeRoy.
